Waqrapukara Peru:

As you approach the archaeological site of Waqrapukara, the distinctive shape of a horn becomes apparent. This feature has earned the fortress its nickname, the “Horned Fortress,”. It is derived from the words where Waqra means ”horn” and Pukara means fortress in the local language.

The Waqrapukara Trek takes roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes each way. This however depends on your pace. The total duration of the hike, including the return journey, can range between 6 to 8 hours. Keep in mind that these times may vary based on individual fitness levels.

However, our travel experts have planned the trek in a way that allows you ample time. You can explore the site and immerse yourself in its rich history. An entrance fee is typically required, but public transport options are available for those who wish to visit Waqrapukara independently.

Day tours are also an excellent option for those who prefer guided excursions. Our knowledgeable guides will accompany you on your trek, sharing the stories and secrets behind this fascinating Inca fortress. Our guided tour of Waqrapukara Peru promises an unforgettable day trip from the city of Cusco.

Cusco City Tour

Introduction to Cusco’s history and culture through this half day City Tours Cusco with our local guide is the best way to start your trip in the ancient capital of Incas. Cusco City, which once served as the capital of Incas, showcases the remnants of Incan architecture at every turn.

Often Cusco is considered as a jump off point to Sacred Valley of Incas, Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain. On this half day Cusco Tour, our local guide will reveal that reputation simply underscores its acclaim.

The Incas named the city as “Qosqo” which means the navel of the world. As both geographically and administratively, Cusco was the centre of the Inca empire.

This is one of our signature tours. On this half day City Tours Cusco, we aim to uncover some of the lesser known mysteries of sites in and around the city of Cusco.

Accompanied by a local expert, you will be visiting sites like the Cusco Cathedral, Incas Temple of the Sun (Qorikancha) – Temple of Santo Domingo within the city. We will then give you a guided tour of the archaeological sites like the Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara (Puka Pukara) and Tambomachay.

It is ideal to do the half day city tour Cusco on your first day in the city before your Sacred Valley tour or before you visit Machu Picchu. Not only it would help you acclimatise to the higher altitude but also will give you an orientation to the history and culture of Incas.

Humantay Lake Peru Day Trip

Humantay Lake Peru Day Trip is a popular day tour from Cusco Peru as Rainbow Mountain. Locally known as Laguna Humantay Cusco, it is a turquoise lake nestled up in the Andes at 4,200 meters above sea level.

Humantay Lake gets its name from the snow capped Humantay Mountain. The lake nestles on its foothills. It is fed by the melting snow from the hill.

This is the first stop on the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Humantay Lake Peru has been sacred to the Andean people since the Inca civilization. This is primarily because they worshipped the nature entities for a good yielding.

Even today Shamans (Andean priests) hike up to the lagoon to offer Apacheta. It is a process of piling stones each on top of the other to thank the Mother Earth (Pachamama) for accompanying them on their journey.

Humantay Lake Peru can only be reached by hiking for 1.5 hours from Soraypampa. If you are not keen on hiking, you can rent a horse at an additional cost.

Laguna Humantay Cusco is a high altitude trek, we highly recommend you to spend at least two days in Cusco before the full day hike and acclimate to avoid altitude sickness.
